senior thesis

ideas and thoughts:

1. cultural exploration of myself: this idea comes from a tattoo ive been conceptualizing for myself for quite sometime. it is an image of our lady of la vang which is an apparition of the virgin mary in viet nam. growing up, i was raised catholic and would stay the religion was a big part of me growing up. however, the more i reflect on it, i would see many buddhist traditions in the practices of my family and extended family members ie alters honoring the dead. so the end goal would to create a large mural of all elements dedicated to in specific vietnamese culture and religion.

2. music as a means of art. i really enjoyed the works of http://www.musicphilosophy.co.uk/ and would like to further explore this concept. i know through personal experience that music has been a way to enhance emotions or cope with them. perhaps, i would like to create one each week for the rest of the term. how i decide to choose what song per week is to be determined.

3. i wanted to further explore a documentation of hip hop culture specifically in the northwest. i think northwest hip hop (specifically Portland) is hugely underrepresented and in order to “give some shine” to these folks put together a project featuring local acts.
